The Michigan Daily is a student-run newspaper organization that produces news in print and online every weekday. It is the main source of news in Ann Arbor where the print paper is circulated around the city. We are one of the biggest organizations on campus with over two hundred active members.
As the Managing Design Editor, not only do I make visuals for infographics and interactive graphics, but I also delegate jobs, create illustrations, and manage a team to ensure the highest quality of work and teamwork. My mission at the Daily is to use visuals to promote news reading so the community would be able to become more interested in catching up on social affairs.
Enabling design layouts in daily prints and leading design team of 23 people. Re-organized team and initiated scheduling system to ensure everyone receives equal opportunities to work at the newsroom and have their qualified work displayed in the paper.
Successfully created seamless collaboration with Web, Photo and News teams, resulting in more room for artistic freedom on page layout designs. Improved website/multimedia by integrating more interactive visuals including animations and digital art.
Started as an entry level Infographics Designer responsible for creating graphics based on information provided. Volunteered more work including illustration, layout design, cross-team leadership and collaboration, resulted in serial promotions to Managing Design Editor.
One of my illustrations was selected and sent by my Editor in Chief to enter 2018 Cartoon of the Year competition organized annually by Associated Collegiate Press. My work was shortlisted to Finalists beating numerous nationwide entries.
